Hologram sticker and plaque ( chip)
As most of you know, Chanel has added a plaque ( metal chip) to all handbags since the release of the 21A collection. The hologram sticker was replaced for many reasons and none of them is to track you I promise lol
A few reasons (but not all!) is to control the tampering of the serial number ( removing from one item and placing on another). This method is used a lot by counterfeit resellers who buy small leather good items, like a wallet or a cardholder..etc and remove the serial number sticker and place it on a fake bag to make the bag look more legit and then pass it as authentic.
One other reason is to avoid wear and tear of the hologram sticker serial number. Since 1985 ( not 1986 as the internet says) Chanel has added the serial number sticker and a matching card to all leather goods for authenticity reasons and services after purchase.
The serial number will help the SA confirm purchase date, and legibility for repair or service, but sometimes the serial number sticker is worn, gone, or numbers are illegible to read and the card is lost. So the plaque is added to help avoid these issues.
The chip was only added to handbags and SLG’s that are in the price range of $3000’s but also the shape and size of the SLG plays a role.
Small leather goods such as cardholders, wallets, vanities, mini clutches, phone holders, etc still have the original serial number sticker and card.

One major change I have seen on the 22C hologram sticker series 317XXXXX is the FONT! Some SLG’s still have the old font of the sticker but some will have a font that was first used in 1997 for the new release of series 5XXXXXX, it’s like a digital font.
Again so far the new font was seen only on serial numbers that begin with 317, not 316, and not 318! So is Chanel experimenting Or is this the new big thing?! Who knows!
