The most beloved series to my heart (yes, I have feelings towards serial numbers). I call it “The Revolutionary!” This series marks a pivotal shift in Chanel's authentication journey, transitioning from the previous gauze (cotton, mesh) serial number style to the more modern sticker-style serial number.
In this 5XXXXXX series, we encounter all kinds of inconsistencies and errors—the kind that would make any experienced authenticator mark a bag as a replica if found in any other series.
But this was an experimental era for Chanel. It was a time of transformation and innovation, where flaws and errors were not only acceptable but expected.
Chanel introduced the holographic CC circle logo to the authenticity card for the first time in this series. Before this, there was no holographic CC logo on the card.
On the newer version of this series (where the serial number is on a sticker inside the bag and not on the older gauze style), you’ll see the holographic logo on the card. However, the older gauze-style (5XXXXXX) serial numbers will not have the holographic CC logo on the authenticity card.
On gauze-style serial number stickers (any series), the “0” traditionally features a diagonal slash. However, in the 5XXXXXX gauze style, the “0” may or may not have the slash—another charming inconsistency.
On the hologram sticker of any series, there is typically a black line on the left and a CHANELCC strip line on the right. But in the 5XXXXXX series, these lines can be switched in position, and it’s completely acceptable. In any other series, this would indicate a counterfeit, but not in this revolutionary series.
Now how can you not love that series?
