LA FERMETURE AILÉE
The Winged Closure.
If you see The word Aliée engraved on your zipper, your bag was made in an era with the best craftsmanship and materials ( if it’s authentic).
LA FERMETURE AILÉE is a French company specializing in small metal brass items. The company was established in 1957 and was closed in 1988, almost 30 years in business.
The year 1957 is special for Chanel and memorable for me as it’s the year Chanel upgraded ( or maybe I should say downgraded) the timeless 2.55 Bijoux chain to a woven one due to metal shortage. I know, lol, but I had to mention that particular year 😆
The company only used high-quality brass, no plastic zippers or snap buttons.
You will often see the following engravings combined on your vintage flap as they are all made by the company;
- AILÉE on heavy-duty winged golden brass zippers only. (the word AILÉE means winged in French).
- - The small letter “a” on the small interior zipper. It’s not a capital D, and it’s not plastic. It’s brass.
- - The letters DL on the snap button, which stands for DORÉ LAITON in French, meaning golden brass.
- From what I wrote, you should always know that if you see these engravings on your bag’s hardware, it means that your bag was likely made no later than 1988 since the company was closed that year. But I would say up to the early 90s till the entire stock was gone.
- I hope you enjoyed this post and understand why I ask for all these tiny details. Authentication is a jigsaw puzzle, and every detail has a portion of the picture till all pieces come together and I see the complete picture❤️
- And yes, if you see this written anywhere else, it’s stolen content ( again), lol
