Why Your Caviar Leather Feels Plastic (And What It Really Is)

Why does the caviar leather on my bag feel like plastic, while the leather on my other bag doesn’t?

The caviar on your bag leather is heavily embossed. The caviar is plastic embossed on top of the leather (calfskin). If the embossed layer is thick, you are basically touching plastic not leather. That’s why Chanel switched to soft caviar which is calfskin that’s lightly embossed. On the top picture you can not see the grains of leather while on the bottom you can.
