Why Some New Chanel Bags Have a Sticker, Not a Chip

Why is the code on my new Chanel bag just a sticker and not on a chip?

It’s actually a barcode-chipped sticker. The sticker is a Data Matrix code, which is a machine-readable barcode containing all the information about your bag once scanned. Chanel uses this method to keep costs down. For items valued up to $3,000, only the Data Matrix sticker code is used. For items above this price point, a plaque with Dot Peen Markings or Dot Matrix Engraving (etching) is used. Therefore, on all SLGs (Small Leather Goods), you will only see the sticker, reflecting their price range.
