STUPID MOLDS!
Let’s look at the positive side of molds. If you see mold on your bag, then you know 100% that the leather is genuine since mold only grows on organic leather or feeds on something that was once alive and now is dead 🪦
The growth of molds on your bag means there was or still is a source of moisture, so we need to make sure that source is terminated if it’s still there.
A source can be lots of things, humidity, some liquid you spilled, rain, etc.
Mold’s happy place is an area that’s warm/hot, dark, undisturbed areas with insufficient airflow; even if there is no moisture source, these conditions combined will create moisture.
If you see tiny white spots molds, the mold is new and still growing; green is the most common color we see, especially on vintage bags’ interior pockets. The mold is now fully grownup! How proud🤗💀
The mold took its sweet time infesting the leather and was not interrupted! No sun/cleaning/ or usage.
Here is how we avoid mold,
Basically, it’s doing all the opposites of the above, storing in a cool, dry room with airflow ( no plastic or acrylic boxes ) and use your bags! The oils from your body will prevent molds from growing as molds don’t like oils; this takes us to the next thing, which is conditioning and cleaning your bag regularly.
If you find molds on your bags, then here is how to remove it,
Spray leather cleaner mixture you will make of 3 parts water and 1 lemon juice ( fresh ). It’s better than vinegar and more natural. If your bag is caviar leather, spray the mix directly to the bag, then start cleaning with a microfiber cloth; if it’s lambskin or others, then spray on the cloth, then clean, and let it dry in the sun, but don’t leave it for more then few hours like 2–3 hours or that is also harmful as the direct sunlight can bleach the color of your bag. Rotate the bag every thirty minutes.
The sun will help a lot in this process, trust me!
Bring it inside when it’s completely dry And start conditioning; after, spray unscented deodorant that’s aluminum-free on the leather inside and outside, then let air dry.
I know you think I am crazy, but this will help with the odor.
I hope this was helpful.
Card got stuck in the moldy pocket! 🤢
